04/05/2009 - U11s are CHAMPIONS

Congratulations to Collingham U11s on winning the New Newark Youth League Division.

On the last game on the season the boys won 2-1 away to Southwell Blacks. After going a goal behind early on the boys rallied to eventually come out winners. Clinching the division in the process. Well done to the boys and manager Pat Douglas for all the hard work and effort throughout the season.

14/12/2008 - NEW!!! Grassroots Starter Pack

Collingham Football Club - Starter Pack

SoccerCubs – Tigers – Leopards - Lions – Cougars

Welcome to Collingham Football Club is a FA Charter Standard status and is the only organisation of its kind in the village. The playing facilities include two senior pitches, one 60 x 40 junior pitch and two areas used for coaching and general training. The main pitch adjacent to the clubhouse is floodlit and has a metal perimeter fence. This pitch is used by both the adult Collingham Sunday football teams who compete in the Newark Alliance League. The facilities are also hired by Newark Town FC who are a semi-professional outfit playing in the Central Midlands Supreme League. When competition draws permit, the ground often hosts FA Vase and FA cup matches. Also to boost income and encourage female participation in football the club have adopted Lincoln Ladies FC who play in the Women’s FA Premier Northern League.

We are also very proud to have partnership arrangements with the New Newark Youth League and the Nottinghamshire Schools FA. This agreement allows both these organisations to play their representative matches under floodlights throughout the season for which they have contributed financially.

Grassroots soccer here at Collingham Football Club was created in response to an overwhelming desire from parents of pre-school children and their friends to get their children into team sport. Since 2003 we have seen the popularity of this grow into a natural production line of footballers that serves the competitive football element of this club starting at School Year 4 (Under 9’s). The ‘mini-soccer’ section of our football club (see table below) has four pre-competitive league coaching groups (Under 5’s, 6’s 7’s and 8’s) and three competitive league year groups (Under 9’s, 10’s and 11’s). There are also three 11-a-side year groups playing football at Collingham and our aspiration is to have a team competing for the village in every school year right up to Under 18.

Membership Fees

The fees are an annual one off payment of £40 and is payable by the first coaching session. There is also a ‘family football membership’ which is £120 irrespective of how many playing members there are in that family (i.e. Mum Dad and three children would have been £200).

This fee covers and includes:

  • Collingham Football Sports and Social Club Membership
  • All coaching sessions and pre-competition football (where applicable)  up to School Year 4
  • A coaching bib - use of all football equipment and coaching aids
  • Priority enrolment into the next Year group
  • Up until School Year 4 each child who completes a full year with us receives a memento of that journey (football medal).

Coaches Charter

All our front-line coaches are CRB checked and qualified at least to FA Level 1 standard (this is a Charter Standard pre-requisite). We all subscribe to the belief that excellent coaching can only be delivered well if the students demonstrate good behaviour. As the coach of a children's team you have a lot of responsibilities and we are fortunate that there is a fantastic support network provided by the national and local football associations. For example, the FA website which includes ‘Soccer Parent’ is an internet based package designed with coaches and parents in mind to provide guidance on specific areas that focus on the key issues involved when a child joins a football team/club. As well as being designed to be informative, fun and engaging, one of the key aspects of the course is that coaches are given advice to assist in gaining positive contributions from parents as well as understanding issues on specific areas such as child welfare and attitudes.

Parents Charter

Thank you very much for your interest in Grassroots football at Collingham Football Club. We hope your child has a great time whilst they are with us. To help us make sure that every session is as enjoyable and as safe as possible, please take a few moments to familiarise yourselves with our Session Rules set out below.

  • Please remember that you are the responsible adult for your child when he/she is attending any of the club sessions.
  • Please let Mike Walker, Mike Goodwin, Peter Fender, Steve Cobb, Julian Nicholson or any of the designated coaches know if you will be leaving the session.
  • Please help us start and finish the sessions on time by arriving promptly.
  • Please keep siblings, buggies and associated equipment off or as far back from the playing area at all times.
  • Parents should provide water but no food should be eaten on the pitch, in order to avoid the hazard of choking.
  • Please try to keep noise and disturbance from the sidelines to a minimum, in order to avoid distracting your child and others.

Once your child has settled into our Grassroots coaching we will actively encourage parents to go “on-line” and complete ‘Soccer Parent’. This is a completely free online course that is available to anybody that registers with FA Learning (The FA’s Educational Provider). Everyone that completes the course and achieves the pass mark can immediately print off an accredited certificate directly from the website. Collingham Football Club’s player charter states if you want your child to play competitive football in Collingham in the future you have to complete the on-line Soccer Parent test prior to your child joining school year 4. The website link is HERE

Students Charter

On coaching days we expect children to have the correct equipment i.e. footwear and shin pads – see diagrams on the back page – a warm tracksuit for the winter, gloves, hats and a water bottle for comfort breaks. There is club merchandise (tracksuits and replica kits) for sale at cost price and this can be sourced through any of the club coaches. The only time we will cancel coaching sessions is if there is a danger of thunderstorms or if there are any extremes of temperatures that are considered unsafe for children in these age groups. We also want the students to have visited the toilet before arriving because although we have these facilities on site monitoring this takes up precious time and resources.

SoccerCubs – Reception Year (Under 5’s)

Our philosophy is to provide pre-school and reception year children with a positive, fun introduction to the wonderful and exciting game of football. Our coaching sessions have been adapted by FA qualified coaches and introduce real football skills through exciting group play activities which are football centered, realistic and child friendly. Valuable concepts such as sharing, taking turns, teamwork and listening to instructions are incorporated in the activities. The classes also enable children to further develop coordination, agility and balance. Furthermore, our coaching sessions help children to discover the rewards of regular structured physical exercise, laying the foundation for fit active and healthy lives. Government statistics suggest that obesity in the pre-school age group is on the increase (almost doubling in the last 20 years*). SoccerCubs simply provides children of this age group with a positive structured introduction to keeping active whilst introducing them to the benefits and enjoyment of our ‘National’ team sport.

Having the correct teaching aids is fundamental to the success of delivering quality sessions. Children in this age group use a size 2 ball and so we have introduced Futebol de Salão for the skill and technique development part of the coaching programme Futebol de Salão is a 5-a-side version of football of South American origin that is played with a smaller (size 2), heavier (465g) ball that has virtually no bounce (10%). The game became very popular in Brazil where players such as Pele, Rivelino, Zico right through to Juninho, Ronaldo and Rivaldo were brought up first playing Futebol de Salão before moving on to conventional football.

Collingham Tigers Year 1’s (Under 6’s)

Now that the children have had a full year with SoccerCubs they are now ready to take on more challenging tasks and drills with the Tigers. Most of these exercises will be from the FA coaching manual and once again are delivered by qualified coaches. Although some emphasis is on repetition we really do try and put the fun into FUNdamentals so that the Tigers are able to stretch themselves and always with a ball at their feet. We believe passionately that practice does not make perfect, practice makes permanent; so it is imperative that children at this level learn the correct skills and techniques before they begin to lose flexibility in their joints (10 years and upwards) and have adopted incorrect techniques that are difficult to change. Whenever possible we would like them to arrive with a positive attitude towards, football, the coaches and their peers. They must also have visited the toilet because although we have these facilities on site monitoring comfort breaks takes up precious time and resources.

The coaching sessions will cover the following skill sets:

Introduce

One touch

1v1

Trapping the ball

Chest stops (control)

Reinforce

Teamwork
