 UNDER 12s WIN THE DOUBLE...

Collingham Under 12s win the league and cup, rounding off a fantastic year for the boys and manager Pat Douglas.

Pat Douglas would like to thank all the boys for their effort throughout the season and the parents for their support and all those who came along to the cup final to cheer the team on.

The following match report is kindly supplied by Glenn Cobb:-

New Newark Youth League Under 12's Cup final saw the top two teams in the division play one another the game between Collingham and Winthorpe & Coddington Tigers was played at the home of Newark Flowserve with the game taking place on the main pitch in front of over 150 spectators they were in for a real treat!

Collingham won the toss and elected for the kick off and what a decision that proved to be as straight from the kick off Sam Rice broke down the left wing and put in a pin point cross straight onto the on rushing George Hoggs head to put the Collingham team into the lead. This goal was even more remarkable as George was the smallest player on the pitch what a leap and what a header! what a goal!

This opening only stirred Winthorpe as they fought their way back into the game with some slick one touch passing which opened up the Collingham defence at times and they were duly rewarded when Morgan Raynor latch onto the ball following some good build up play to stroke the ball past the Collingham goal keeper to bring the Winthorpe side level. In a pulsating game which saw Winthorpe have some good strikes at goal and with Collingham hitting the bar twice from one such effort the ball rebounded out to Alex Scott who drove in a low hard shot which was unfortunately deflected into the Winthorpe net to put Collingham two one up. Half Time Collingham 2 Winthorpe 1.

The second half started at the same pace that the first half finished with chances again created at both ends but half way through the second half Collingham's William Onians latched onto a through ball to calmy place the ball past the despairing dive of Jack Medley in the Winthorpe goal to put Collingham in the box seat. Five minutes later enter Collingham's Taylor Hursthouse the strong forward hit an unstoppable shot into the roof of the Winthorpe net to put his side four one up. At this point you could see the Winthorpe side starting to tire they had put so much effort into the game and it was starting to catch up with them. The Collingham Captain Harrison Allen who had covered almost every blade of grass on the large pitch was next to get in on the action has he struck the best shot of the game fully 20 yards out into the top of the Winthorpe goal to fully justify the Man of the Match accolade. Taylor Hursthouse scored his second goal of the game in the last minute of the match and Collingham's sixth of the game which was very harsh on the Winthorpe side as they had played very well in what was a fantastic game of 11 aside junior football. Great credit must be given to the managers of both sides Collingham's Pat Douglas and Winthorpe's Richard Radford for spending so much time on the training ground with these children it was a truly memorable game. Very well done to all concerned! final score Collingham 6 Winthorpe &Coddington Tigers 1.
